Enchantments have a lot of uses, even for your humble Fishing Rod, turning it into a powerful farming tool for food and treasure. Let’s go over them, and help you choose what fishing rod enchantments may be right for your next arcane adventure.

Luck of the Sea

When it comes to Fishing Rod enchantments, this is likely one of the first to come to mind. Luck of the Sea has a maximum of three levels, each of which increases your chances of catching treasure items while lowering your chances of catching junk. This may be a useful enchantment if you're looking to snag a few extra valuables while fishing.
Lure

Lure is a simple enchantment with a maximum of 3 levels, each of which decreases the amount of time between bites on your line. Each level reduces the wait time by about 5 seconds, making this a useful enchantment if you're either impatient, or if you simply want to gather as much food in a short amount of time.
Unbreaking

As with all durability-related items, Unbreaking assists with tool longevity. With a max of 3 levels, applying this to your Fishing Rod will substantially increase its lifespan. Recommended if using against hostile mobs or players.
Mending

Granting durability upon collecting XP, it's a great enchantment if you want a long-lasting tool. It is rare, but very much worth adding to any important tool, especially if your Fishing Rod has a max level Lure or Luck of the Sea enchantment on it.
Best Overall Fishing Rod

For most players, the best Fishing Rod will have Luck of the Sea III, Lure III, Unbreaking III, and Mending. This gives you better treasure chances, faster catches, and much better durability.
Quick Fishing Tips

For the best results, fish somewhere with open sky above your bobber when raining. Fishing under cover can make bites take longer, while fishing in the rain can speed things up if the bobber is being rained on.
If you're trying to catch treasure items, make sure your bobber is in open water, as treasure catches require enough clear space around the bobber.
Curse of Vanishing
Curse of Vanishing can also appear on Fishing Rods, but it is not recommended. If you die with it in your inventory, the item disappears instead of dropping.
