Minecraft 26.1 "Tiny Takeover"

The Minecraft 26.1 update "Tiny Takeover" drops today (at the time of writing) and it comes with a whole host of new features and exciting gameplay enhancements! We'll be going over some of the biggest changes in this article so you can be fully prepared to get in and play!

Redesigned Baby Mobs

Mobs are an integral part of the Minecraft experience! From creatures that help, hurt, or do something in between, Minecraft has always had a large variety of mobs that can inhabit your world! Baby mobs in Minecraft though have always been a little rough around the edges. They ended up looking like shrunk down versions of the adult versions of the mob most of the time. With the Minecraft 26.1 update, all baby mobs in the game have been completely visually redesigned! With more accurately proportioned heads, entirely new models, new animations, and even cute little button eyes for most baby mobs! You'll most likely notice the new visual changes, but if you pay attention in-game, you'll also notice that the hitbox of baby mobs have been adjusted so that they match their new models much better! Turn those headphones or speakers up as well! New sounds have been added for baby mobs that should help you tell them apart from their adult counterparts through audio alone!

The Golden Dandelion

A new flower has been added in this update as well! This flower won't be found naturally among all the other flowers in your overworld however. This flower is special in that it can only be crafted, or traded for though a wandering trader. The crafting recipe is eight golden nuggets wrapped around a normal dandelion that can be found in the overworld. What's so special about this flower to where it needs almost an entire ingot of gold for? Well besides looking cool and luxurious, the golden dandelion has a special feature! If you use it on a baby mob, it will completely stop it from aging! So if you really like these new baby mob models, you can keep specific mobs in your world as babies forever! Don't worry if you change your mind later and want the mob to age normally again, you can use another golden dandelion on a mob that has stopped aging and it will start aging normally again.

Craftable Name Tags

Your mind is probably racing with all the possibilities this update brings when it comes to cute pets in game! Baby mobs look so much more appealing now and you can also keep them as babies forever? That sounds perfect for having a bunch of pets in your world to explore with! You'd most likely want to give all of these pets their own name as well, but in previous versions of the game a name tag was only acquirable through looting structures or trading. In Minecraft 26.1, name tags are finally craftable! The recipe is super simple too! All you need is one paper, and a nugget (copper, iron, or gold) inside a crafting table. Hopefully with this change you won't have to spend hours searching for villages and dungeons trying to get those ever so rare name tags.

Miscellaneous Changes

Minecraft 26.1 adds a whole lot of other small changes too! Here are some of the most impactful out of those.

  • Trumpet Instrument added to Note Blocks, this can be used by placing a Note Block on a block of copper.

  • A new World Options setting is available for worlds that will allow you to change things such as gamerules without the need for commands!

  • The game now allocates 4GBs of RAM to the game itself through the default launcher options, this should help with performance!
